I feel the same way. It is one piece I don't have for Felicity but I don't know if I plan on getting it. I also saw the set at AGPC- I may get it when I redo the doll room and have room for it.

Speaking from a play-value point of view:
My DD got this for Christmas and she loves it. It is one of the most played-with AG items we've ever had (DD has always loved horses and has had many horse-related toys over the years, so I knew she would love it).
The background is very heavy and sturdy. You can't really tell it is cardboard, because it is pretty thick. It would be better if it were a few inches taller (it is shorter than the dolls and the horses), but it is still a very nice piece. It comes with quite a bit of fencing. Right now my daughter has used it to make a corral between her bed and closet and it covers a lot of space.
As for the price... yeah, it's pretty high. But then, I feel that way about most AG stuff. I buy it because it is a better alternative to most "toys", and the prices don't bug me too much, since it is all my DD asks for. But like anything, it would always be better if it were cheaper. If I had to name a price that I think is "fair" for the stable, as compared to most toys on the market, I would say $50.

I was planning on getting this last weekend while I was at AGPC, but held out temporiraly. I was dissapointed to find out the background was basically laminated cardboard...and they were charging 75$ for it!!! I mean sure it comes with the wheel barrow and stuff but still that seams like a lot. Does anyone have it? How is the holdup? What do you guys think? I guess as one of the few items I don't have for her I should get it, but it still seams over prices. Any thoughts?

I saw this at AGPC and did not like the fact that the shovel, mortal, and pestle are all made out of plastic. I wrote to American Girl about this and told them that plastic should not be a part of a historical collection. I asked them to stop turning historical collection items into large Barbie accessories. It sadens me to think the new guitar is all plastic, and that the carriage has plastic components. If we all would stop buying things which are not up to snuff they might get the message. In answer to the original question, I feel this is overpriced and not of the scale or quality it should be. I do not intend to purchase it. I prefer to save my money for the older retired items which were of much better quality.
